New Hope Construction began the Seniors at Home program in 2006. This is an affordable housing program for senior adults (55+) who are very low income and living in substandard conditions. We provide a volunteer built house which they purchase with a 30 year no interest mortgage. So far we have built ten homes in Dunlap Tennessee, Pikeville Tennessee, and Franklin Kentucky.
This year, plans are in place to move forward and construct up to eighteen homes in the Seniors at Home Village in Dunlap Tennessee. The property was purchased last fall just as it was being annexed by the city. We have gone through zoning, acceptance of the proposal to build one level townhomes, along with final acceptance for sewer and water. Roads were cut in a few months ago, streets have been named, and we are ready to pour foundations!
This property is nestled in the shadow of the Appalachain mountains of East Tennessee and has a breathtaking view. The homeowners will have a walking trail that circles the property. There will also be a common area for picnics, extra parking, etc. Each townhome in Phase I will have a 1 car garage. The townhomes are energy efficient and New Hope is incorporating green building practices whenever possible.
There have been many generous volunteers in the Dunlap and Pikeville area who have give of their time to ensure this project continues. We will keep all of you posted on the progress and our needs. Anyone who wishes to volunteer may call Helen Ickes at 615 495-3107, or the New Hope office at 1 866 396-4673. We appreciate any donation of time, money, or materials!
