The roof and siding have been installed at lot 13. Work is in progress for electrical and plumbing.
The foundation is in place for lot 14.
Both of these houses will have a zero-step entry through the garage and the front door. NHC is a member of the Easy Living program, which is administered through the Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities. In order to qualify, a house must have at least 1 entry with no steps (zero-step), have at least 30" doors for possible wheelchair entry, and be adaptable to any ADA requirements the homeowner may have now or in the future. We have certified 2 houses so far with this program, and expect to continue to build with zero-step entries whenever possible. Many of our homeowners have health restrictions, and NHC strives to make the houses fit with their needs. All of the houses are ADA compatible, so the senior adult can continue to live in the house if future modifications are necessary.
If you know of anyone in the Sequatchie County area who might benefit from our program, applications are available at the Citizens Tri-County Bank, Happy Bottom Office Supplies, and the Chamber of Commerce. Or, call 1 866-396-4673, ext. 22 or 27 and an application can be mailed.
NHC would like to thank the Sequatchie County Sheriff's office, Chaplain Lenard Sutherland, and the trustees who are in their work program. They have provided many hours of volunteer work to this project. Some of the trustees who are in the program have been able to learn new skills to help them when they are released. We appreciate their efforts on our project, and are also very glad that we can make a contribution to the community that goes beyond our project.
